For the second consecutive year, Infiné is organizing its workshop in an amazing concert venue, the Normandoux Quarry (la Carrière du Normandoux). Unbelievable, breathtaking, peaceful and relaxing as it is, this location creates a unique alchemy between all those attending, from artists to organizers and spectators. For a week, its friendly summer camp-like atmosphere offers musicians the opportunity to meet and exchange creative ideas. The unusual music collaborations enhance outstanding live-projects which are then performed on stage during three unforgettable nights in the quarry.
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 18th, 2010 - FREDO VIOLA & SCALDE // ARANDEL
The stage of the Normandoux Quarry is set at the back of a stone water-filled amphitheatre. Stone and sound produce a unique natural reverberation here. The acoustics are unbelievable. Fredo Viola and Scalde have decided to play onto a natural platform at the foot of the limestone cliff and not on the usual stage so as to interact with these accoustics. For one hour, the breathtaking ethereal vocal performance is enveloping the place. The live sampled voices overlap and intertwine creating captivating vocal masses. These out-of-time lyrics are illustrated by visual creations by Fredo Viola.
Then Arandel goes on the stage and surprise, he isn’t one but two. This live performance really embodies a digest of the whole workshop. Many of the attending artists are present, Vanessa Wagner on piano, Mimu on theremin (instrument that she has just discovered during the workshop and which she already masters though) and vocals by Fredo Viola and Mimu. This live creation transcends expectations by far, teetering between softness and power, naturally going from one atmosphere to another without a break. For my part, it is the first time that I have heard live electronic music in which vocals (without any lyrics) are so important.They have become full-fledged instruments. The organic aspect of the album clearly shows on stage even though using MIDI (logistically it would otherwise be impossible) with many unlikely and amazing instruments. Quickly winning over the audience, the Arandel entity faces an absolute plebiscite at the end of its first, but clearly not the last live session.
La Foudre comes next, keeping the audience warmed up by developping a groovy techno set and finishing off everybody. The perfect closure for a very special night.

Pour la deuxième année consécutive, InFiné a organisé son workshop dans un lieu atypique : La carrière du Normandoux. Le lieu, incroyable, beau, calme et reposant, crée une alchimie toute particulière entre toutes les personnes présentes qu'elles soient artistes, organisateurs ou spectateurs. C’est dans un esprit bon enfant proche de la colonie de vacances que les musiciens vont, pendant une semaine, se rencontrer, échanger pour finalement travailler leur live ensemble et montrer le résultat au public lors de trois soirées dans la carrière.
MERCREDI 18 AOUT - FREDO VIOLA & SCALDE // ARANDEL
La scène de la carrière du Normandoux est au fond d'une arène de pierre où l'eau est peu à peu monté pour finalement se stabiliser. L'acoustique du lieu est incroyable, le son et la pierre créant une réverbération naturelle inimitable. C'est d'ailleurs avec cette acoustique que Fredo Viola et Scalde vont jouer en s'installant non pas sur scène mais sur une plateforme naturelle au pied des falaises de pierre. Pendant une heure ils vont envelopper le lieu d'une performance vocale aérienne assez incroyable. Les deux voix se chevauchent et s'entrelacent, elles sont samplées en direct créant ainsi des masses vocales de plus en plus envoûtantes. Ce moment hors du temps est illustré par des réalisations visuelles de Fredo Viola, arrangées pour l'occasion par le VJ du workshop, Nico Tico.
Arandel montent sur scène, étonnamment il n'est pas un, mais deux, première surprise. En fait ce live d'Arandel est un condensé du workshop, beaucoup d’artistes présents interviennent, Vanessa Wagner au piano, Mimu à la voix et au thérémin (instrument qu'elle a découvert lors du workshop et que, pourtant, elle maîtrise déjà très bien) et Fredo Viola à la voix. Ce live dépasse de loin les attentes, oscillant entre douceur et puissance, passant d'une ambiance à une autre naturellement et sans discontinuer. Pour ma part c'est la première fois que je vois un live électronique dans lequel les voix (que des vocalises, pas de paroles) ont autant d'importance, elles deviennent un instrument à part entière. Le côté organique de l’album est bien représenté sur scène, bien que l’utilisation du MIDI est ici autorisé (logistiquement ça serait impossible), on retrouve de nombreux instruments improbables et surprenant. Le public est vite acquis à la cause et c'est sur un plébiscite complet que l'entité Arandel termine son premier live, mais certainement pas le dernier !
La Foudre garde la température haute en développant un set techno groovy qui achève tout le monde. La point final parfait pour cette soirée unique.
