Infiné, easy music for the hard to please

This summer, for the second year running, InFiné is taking part in "LA CARRIERE" du Normandoux" festival to instigate new sound experiences and to generate artist collaborations. 

The resident artists have been freed from the usual time constraints and invited to stay for a week at this creative centre. The outcome usually involves a mix of relaxation, surprises, connections, exchanges and creation during these three nights of concerts.

There were some great moments last year including a performance based around a collage of vocals created by a mysterious figure named Arandel. There was also the meeting of the iconic cellist Gaspar Claus alongside lunar productions from Rone and the electronic dancing blues of Fraction and Guillaume Eluerd. The final night bought about the crystallised complexity of the flamenco maestro Pedro Soler and his son Gaspar Claus.

The magical atmosphere remains present in this unique setting after 30 years of disuse, the quarry is extracting new stones from its limestone walls. Arandel’s first album ‘In D’ will see the light of day on the 28th June. Guillaume Eluerd and Fraction are currently slaving away on their first mini album. Pedro Soler and Gaspar Claus have just shown us excerpts of their first album set for release at the beginning of 2011.

The ambitious project will continue with the festival this year breathing fresh summery air into the eclectic international journeys. The generator is winding up to full charge to produce the most original works to date!

Wednesday 18th August 9pm

Fredo Viola & Scalde // Performance // USA + France
Certified vocal cloud and electronic fog! Fredo & Scalde have known eachother for a while and regularly share the same stage. Fredo Viola’s records mix mystical romanticism and modern technologies, a perfect universe for Scalde’s voice (which also features on Agoria’s productions). Their aim is to reach the high ground of the quarry!

Arandel // Electronic music // France
An atypical composer, Arandel is a mysterious artist nourished on the aestheticism of the experimental and contemporary New York scene. His music could sound electronic if it wasn’t entirely made up of organic old and rare musical instruments. He will play his first record “In D” for the first time live, assisted by the no less mysterious character of Manvoy de Saint Sadrill.

Thursday 19th August 9pm

Vanessa Wagner & Sasha Rozhdestvensky // Classical music // France + Russia
Three artists, three countries : Mexico, Russia and France, a nice mix! This night will fluctuate smoothly between classical and electronic music. Vanessa Wagner the internationally famous pianist will accompany Sasha Rozhdestvensky, the violonist considered as one of the most talented of his generation. The will both interpret sonatas of Mozart, Beethoven, Strauss,...

Murcof // Electronic music // Mexico
He is one of the most impressive representatives of electronic avant-garde. With sounds and silences, this Mexican musician weaves unheard acoustic textures which liken his music to classical music. On stage, he is a real sound architect, Murcof hustles the time-space divide and fills the audience with full and odd sound landscapes. A dialogue between the three virtuosos will lean the night into the unknown...

Friday 20th August 9pm

Clara Moto & Mimu // Electronic music // Austria
Behind her machines, Clara distils fine, catchy and organic house which has made her one of the new feminine faces of the electronic network. Mimu is a multidisciplinary artist whose voice bewitches Clara’s tracks. They met in the studio for the release of “Polyamour”, their complicity hould find a particular echo against the walls of the quarry.

Touré Kunda & Dorian Concept  // World music + electronic // Senegal + Austria
The Touré brothers are seen as members of the founding fathers of “world” music. They will perform at the quarry with only their voices as instruments. Dorian Concept will be entrusted with producing the bewitching and warm tones of their voices. This Austrian jack of all trades, who has collaborated with Flying Lotus, is the author of “When Planets Explode” his first album which targeted the hip hop scene. His productions mix jazz, rock, oriental and contemporary music with ease. Without a doubt, this set is going to shine.

18th, 19th and 20th August
La Foudre // DJ set // France
To finish in a celebratory mood, every night will be ended with a set by La Foudre. This young Parisian DJ can adapt to any situation. With his sharp sense and vivid musical loop, he stays tuned in his audience to create a sophisticated universe. He has only one desire: to make us dance!
